PAMELA JOUAN-GOLDMAN
for
District 2 School Board

Organized.   Energized.   Ready.

I am thrilled to be running for the Town of Mount Pleasant area Constituent District 2 School Board member seat

this November 6th, 2018.

CONSTITUENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER DUTIES

  • Assign students to non-magnet local schools in the constituent district, subject to appeal to the CCSD Board of Trustees.

  • Consider and determine student transfer requests, both inter and intra-district, subject to appeal to the CCSD Board of Trustees.

  • Hear and decide student discipline appeals, subject to appeal to the CCSD Board of Trustees.

  • Inform CCSD Board of Trustees of well-being of district schools.

In addition, this year, the Constituent School Board for District 2 will have the distinct duty of zoning

Lucy Beckham High School which opens in the fall of 2020.

WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER

The right to public education is a keystone in American democracy and I firmly advocate for every

Mount Pleasant student to have the best educational opportunity available to them.

Luckily, in Mount Pleasant, good choices are not the issue!

I bring a unique perspective shaped by my educational experiences living in various places in both

the United States and Europe.

I possess a work ethic required for a position that expects its board members to be

prepared and present for meetings.

As a mother, I bring to the table compassion and understanding for every child’s unique educational needs and will handle each transfer case and discipline hearing accordingly.

LUCY BECKHAM HS ZONING CONSIDERATIONS

As the Mount Pleasant community continues to grow and thrive by leaps and bounds,

the school board has a responsibility to recognize and meet the demands of a burgeoning

school-age population whose numbers come close to 14,000 in District 2 alone.

Zoning for Lucy Beckham High School will require careful consideration of everything from

traffic patterns and bus routing, to school curriculum offerings.

I firmly believe open communication and impartial, clear-eyed opinions will get this zoning done right.

This is not about catering to the needs of any one ‘zipcode’, but to all the children in District 2.

About Me

I was born and raised in London, and spend my formative years in Los Angeles, CA before moving to the East Coast. After (too) many years in Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY, it was time for a final move to lay down roots. My husband Michael and I, along with our two children, are thrilled to be ‘at home’  in Mount Pleasant.

Being a part of my children’s educational journeys has always been a priority. I was an engaged member of my son’s elementary school PTA and enjoyed working on fundraisers. When I was at a loss for a French bilingual pre-school option for my daughter, I partnered with another parent to find a solution, hiring French teachers and finding a location to hold classes in. Les Petits Bouts de Choux was founded in 2011 and offered a full French immersion  program for 2 to 3 year olds and 3 to 4 year olds.

I hold a B.A. in English from Cal State Northridge, and completed a Masters Class in English at UCLA.

I worked in the music industry for many years before my children were born.

Today, I write and publish magazines for clients in the culinary and hospitality industries.

I am an active advocate for environmental groups like surfrider.org, keepcharlestonbeautiful, and #strawlesssummer.
